Complete your authentic Japanese tatami room with traditional or modern furniture accessories that complete your Japanese style home.

Common furniture found in traditional tatami rooms are partitions, or shoji screens for separating spaces within the room. Stylized sliding doors are also used for greater privacy. Low tables are used as it is customary to sit on the tatami floor. Many low tables, also known as Kotatsu, are heatable from underneath. Cushions for sitting may also include back support resembling chairs with no legs. For sleeping, futons are placed directly on the tatami floor and are kept folded during the day.

Historically, tatami was reserved for Japanese nobles but became increasingly popular during the Muromachi Period. It has only been within recent decades that contemporary flooring materials have replaced tatami, giving way to western design and furnishing styles.
